Backplane systems are used in servers and enable the easy installation or replacement of hard disks. Due to the plug-in technology of hard disk plug-in units, the hard disks are integrated into the system via plug-in connections and not via cable connections, as is usually the case. This means that the hard disks can be replaced without tools and very easily, without having to open the server housing. The hot-swap technology here additionally enables the exchange and replacement of hard disks during operation.
